Open or Free computer life is possible?

I'm computer developer and I'm testing (after a fresh install of operating system and related drivers) if I can work only with free or open software in real world in every day life.
At the moment operating system is escluded: Windows 7

Sorry, i have not a suggest for CD and DVD recording.

For the antivirus, Avast is one of the best, in the free market.

For Firewall, i have used ZoneAlarm for a log time.

A free coputer life is a good idea !
Perhaps a computer free life will be better !

Io uso GnuLinux (distro Debian). Così non ci sono problemi di virus vari o software a pagamento... tutto free! E mi ci trovo davvero bene: basta farci un attimo l'abitudine...
